Olympic Channel
Olympic Channel
The Olympic Channel is an online platform focusing on Olympic sports, athletes and stories, including a 24/7 television content stream, video on demand and social media.
The ambition
The ambition was to engage its audience with the power of what sport can do, it provides a more comprehensive and personalised look inside the world of the Olympics. Literally turning the Olympics ‘Inside out’.
A new generation
This was the first time the International Olympic Committee (IOC) had owned a direct relationship with a new generation of millennials and Gen Y. A brand strategy and identity was developed that celebrates the legend and legacy of the Games and the Olympic mission in order to resonate with younger viewers through an ‘always-on’ dialogue.
The Task
My original role was to rationalise the identity, create a visual ‘Living Ring’ design for each Olympic sport and to develop bespoke designs for specific social media content and advertsing. All the creative work was documented in a brand guideline which I designed and wrote, I continued as brand guardian working on implementation. As part of this I developed a storyboard and art directed a brand identity film which was commissioned to inspire and inform internal teams and external agencies about the Olympic Channel brand.
